After Jesus died his body was placed in a tomb carved into rock. Because the sabbath began the evening Jesus died, the women had to wait until the third day to go to the tomb to properly prepare his body for burial. A surprise was waiting for them at the tomb. Jesus body was gone! Instead there was an angel waiting for them who told them Jesus was alive. Amazed, the women left to tell the disciples. Each of the gospel writers tells different stories about the events that surrounded Jesus resurrection. On the right are lilies and butterflies which are both symbols of Christ’s resurrection. Lilies grow, bloom and dieback. New shoots grow from what appears to be a dead plant and bloom again. A butterfly grows from a chrysalis, changing form in the process. Like the lily and the butterfly, Jesus earthly body died and then took a new form-the risen Christ.
