On the night the Hebrew people were to leave Egypt they were to have a special meal. According to God’s instructions they were to slaughter a lamb and roast it. They were to eat unleavened bread with this meal too. God also told them to take some hyssop, an herb, dip it in the blood from the lamb and dab the blood on the lintels and doorposts of their homes. The Destroyer that God was sending would pass over the homes marked with blood. At midnight God struck down the firstborn in every house not marked by the lamb’s blood. Pharaoh told Moses to take the Hebrew people and leave immediately. They did. In this window we can see the lamb and its blood, the unleavened bread, and the blood on the lintel and doorposts. In the background we can see the pyramids of Egypt and the Hebrew people leaving Egypt. The stars in the sky are a reminder of God’s promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars of heaven.
