The stories of Jesus’ birth are some of the best known and well-loved in the Bible. On the left are the three wise men. To find the “Child born King of the Jews” they followed a star. The star is shining high above the baby Jesus in the center background. The wise men brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The gifts are seen in the outstretched hands of the standing wise man and on the ground beside the kneeling wise man. In the center and on the right are livestock. After his birth Jesus’ mother wrapped him up and laid him a feed trough or manger. It was a safe, warm, dry place for him. The livestock remind us that Jesus was born in a common place and not in a palace. The ring of light surrounding the baby Jesus draws our attention forward to Jesus’ ministry and his words “I am the light of the world”.
