God called Abraham to leave his home in Ur and go to another country, a country God promised to give to Abraham’s descendants. God promised that Abraham’s family would become a great nation. Abraham and his wife Sarah were old, too old to have children, but they trusted God.
After many adventures and false starts God’s promise of a son for Abraham and Sarah was fulfilled when Isaac was born.
God tested Abraham’s faith by telling him to take Isaac and offer him as a burnt offering on a distant mountain. Abraham obeyed. Just as Abraham was about to kill Isaac. an angel of the Lord called to him to stop.
