God’s messengers, the prophets, spoke to God’s chosen people. The message was often a call to turn away from greed, dishonesty and injustice and to turn to justice and compassion. The prophets’ messages also included hope for a better future. Isaiah 11 is a message of hope. A future time of peace in all creation is the heart of this window. In the left foreground is the stump of Jesse (King David’s father) with a new fruiting shoot. David’s descendants, with few exceptions, failed to lead the people as God desired. But God had promised David his kingdom would last forever. The new shoot is the hope of that promise being fulfilled. In the center is a child leading a lamb and a lion. This passage describes a time when animals that are usually predator and prey will live together
peaceably. Isaiah describes hope as peace for the earth and all its’ inhabitants.
